Cambridge graduates appointed to the Court of Appeal

The Faculty welcomes with great pleasure the appointment of four Cambridge graduates to the Court of Appeal.

The Queen has approved the appointment to the Court of Sir Rabinder Singh, Dame Sarah Asplin, Sir Guy Newey, and Sir George Leggatt.

Sir Rabinder Singh (Trinity 1982) currently sits in the Queens’ Bench Division of the High Court. Dame Sarah Asplin (Fitzwilliam 1979) and Sir Guy Newey (Queens’ 1977) both sit in the Chancery Division. All three studied Law at Cambridge. Sir George Leggatt (King’s 1976) read Philosophy at Cambridge and currently sits in the Queens’ Bench Division.

Professor Richard Fentiman, Chair of the Faculty, commented:

“We warmly congratulate the Cambridge graduates appointed to the Court of Appeal. Our graduates have always served at the highest levels of the judiciary but it is especially notable that four out of the seven new appointees should come from Cambridge.”
