Insurance Executive Joins Slater and Gordon to Head Consumer Division Expansion

Law firm Slater and Gordon has appointed a leading insurance industry executive to head up expansion of its consumer legal services division.

Angus Eaton becomes Slater and Gordon’s new Managing Director of Consumer Legal Services – which includes employment, residential conveyancing and family law departments. He will also become the Chief Risk Officer and chair the company’s Risk Management Committee.

Angus, who has more than two decades of experience within the legal, financial and insurance sector, joins from Aviva, having held various Executive and Board roles, including Managing Director of the Commercial General Insurance Business and Chief Risk Officer of its UK insurance business.

He said: “Slater and Gordon’s mission to improve access to legal services really excites me.

“We are in a world where our customers continually face uncertainly and ambiguity – anything from buying a house, writing a will or going through divorce can be bewildering life events without the right help.

“Great legal services can offer a customer the comfort, answers and security to achieve the outcomes they are looking for. We are able to offer real solutions to people’s problems through our service and legal expertise.

“Slater and Gordon is well placed to reach the many people who currently cannot access the legal services they need.”

Slater and Gordon’s chief executive, David Whitmore, said: “Angus brings a wealth of experience and invaluable insight and expertise to the team.

He added: “We have ambitious plans to develop and expand our consumer legal services offering and have built a strong leadership team with the skills required to deliver on these ambitious objectives.”

Angus replaces Ken Fowlie who stepped down from executive responsibilities in December but remains on the UK board as a non-executive director.

The insurance industry veteran’s appointment is the latest in a string of senior figures from legal and consumer services backgrounds to join the firm under Whitmore.

In October, Alison Wilford left AIM-listed Impellam Group PLC to become the firm’s Chief Financial Officer.

In the same month, Yvonne Ferguson, whose CV includes senior management positions at Transport for London, Royal Mail, Ministry of Defence and WPP, became the company’s first Chief Technology and Transformation Officer. She is heading up a team tasked with digitising and broadening legal services as part of a £30 million pound investment drive.

Last year, former managing director of Sainsbury’s Bank and ex-GE Capital executive, Martyn Beauchamp, and Lynda Greenshields, who previously worked the Group HR Director for Acromas covering Saga, The AA, and Allied Healthcare, also became Chief Customer Officer and Chief HR Officer, respectively.
