Quality Conversation will Continue – A Message from CIArb President, James Bridgeman

I am delighted and honoured to take on the responsibilities of President of our institute for 2018 – a role that is designed by our royal charter to provide an ambassador for our more than 15,000-strong cadre of professional women and men striving for excellence in private dispute resolution across the world.

I hope to follow on from the leadership provided by my predecessors, most recently Professor Dr Nayla Comair-Obeid C.Arb and Datuk Professor Sundra Rajoo C.Arb, and of the Director General Anthony Abrahams MCIArb and his team at 12 Bloomsbury Square, developing the synergy with our colleagues in sister ADR, professional, business and governmental organisations across the globe.

As part of this ongoing process I will encourage a conversation at our events on the themes of quality assurance and ethics in private dispute resolution. As the premier private dispute resolution professional membership body we have an important role to play in the establishment and maintenance of standards of excellence and constant improvement in both international and domestic dispute resolution.

Our membership is held in the highest esteem in the international business community and our qualifications are a mark of distinction in the field of private dispute resolution.
As parties, advisors and appointing authorities respond to the demands for efficiency, competence and diversity, by choosing to nominate a Fellow of CIArb as an arbitrator, mediator or other neutral they can take comfort that the nominee has a qualification hard-won from a premier global institute which has established and maintains unsurpassed international standards of training, education, assessment and qualification.

They can also be assured that the nominated Fellow of CIArb has invested his or her personal time and resources into achieving the qualification, and that the ethics of the nominee are regulated by the CIArb code of conduct.
