YMG Call for Proposals on the topic of Diversity in Arbitration

The CIArb Young Members Group’s Global Steering Committee is delighted to announce that the upcoming CIArb YMG Paris conference, to be held at the ICC on 6 December 2017, will feature a panel on “Diversity in International Arbitration”.

We would like to invite young professionals (40 years and under on the date of submission) to submit a proposal on this topic.

Authors are welcome to consider diversity in arbitration in terms of gender, age, experience, or ethnicity.

We also encourage authors to consider the overall theme of the conference, i.e. “Navigating through Common law and Civil law waters in International Arbitration: Young Perspectives from Europe and the Americas”.

Potential topics might include:

  • Is there a difference in experience (e.g. advocacy experience) between young practitioners from common law and civil law backgrounds?
  • Is it easier for young practitioners to get appointments as arbitrator if they are self-employed?

All submissions meeting the criteria set forth below will be considered in a review process for the author’s participation as speaker on the panel.

Specifications for submission

  • Word document: Approximately 500 to 800 words (including footnotes)
  • Due date: 10 November 2017 (midnight, London time)
  • Language: English

Submissions shall be accompanied by a cover email indicating the author’s nationality, age, affiliation, and qualifications.

Results

The CIArb YMG will inform authors by mid November 2017 whether their contribution has been selected.

Selected authors will then be invited to prepare a presentation on the topic of their submission for the
