Ince & Co announces launch of English insurance law desk in Cologne

International law firm Ince & Co announces today the launch of an English insurance law desk in Cologne. The initiative comes in response to growing client demand and will provide face-to-face access for German-based clients to a team of English qualified insurance lawyers.

Germany is the second largest insurance market in the world and is the centre for the industry in Continental Europe. Ince & Co opened its second German office in Cologne in 2016 with the recruitment of insurance partners Stefan Segger and Eva-Maria Goergen. They were subsequently joined by senior insurance lawyer Julia Degen. The office provides advice to the non-marine insurance and reinsurance markets, where as Ince & Co’s Hamburg office, which opened in 2001, focuses on marine insurance.

The English Law Desk provides German and international clients based in Germany with a wide range of legal services covering every aspect of the local, UK and global insurance and reinsurance markets. Clients’ access to their London market expertise will be enhanced by Ince & Co’s recent investment in new technology, for example advanced video conferencing.

Jan Heuvels, International Senior Partner of Ince & Co, commented:

“We have practiced English law in Germany for a number of years and the English Insurance Law Desk in Cologne is a natural next step in selling our cross-border insurance and reinsurance expertise. I am delighted that Joe O’Keeffe and Kiran Soar will lead the desk, in what is one of our core sectors, and will work closely with Stefan Segger and Eva-Maria Goergen who practice German law and have the local market expertise.”

Stefan Segger of Ince & Co, Cologne, added:

“By this initiative, we bring our London market insight to our German-based clients, many of whom operate in the London market. Further, many of our clients will be able to take advantage of our practical advice, including on policy wordings, compliance and regulatory issues such as Brexit. It is great to have two senior and experienced London insurance partners on the ground. The desk will be a major boost to our firm’s offering in Germany. It will add considerable strength to our globally renowned insurance practice and reaffirms our continued commitment to our clients in the sector.”
