Clive Coleman, British legal commentator and journalist (Host)

From 2010 to 2020 Clive was the BBC’s Legal Correspondent providing legal coverage and analysis across the BBC news output on radio, television and the website.  Drawing on his years as a practicing barrister, he covered a vast range of domestic and international stories and issues including 2019’s momentous Supreme Court prorogation case, legal issues around Brexit, the growing courts backlog, GDPR, the VW emissions scandal, phone hacking, and the Hillsborough tragedy inquests.

Clive broke many stories and secured exclusive interviews with the likes of Lady Hale on her departure from the Supreme Court, Lord Reed on his appointment as President, John Crilly the ex-offender who fought the London Bridge attacker Usman Khan, and many more.  He won numerous journalism awards in the role, most recently the 2019 Bar Council Reporting Award for his coverage of the prorogation case.  He also received an honorary doctorate of Laws and was made an honorary Bencher of the Middle Temple in recognition of his reporting. Prior to becoming BBC Legal Correspondent, Clive was for six years the presenter of Radio 4’s flagship legal analysis programme ‘Law In Action’, and presented a raft of BBC programmes including Panorama.  He has also been a columnist on The Times. Clive is a consultant at Legal and Litigation PR firm Maltin PR.


Professor Stephen MaysonHonorary Professor of Law, University College London

For more than 30 years, Professor Stephen Mayson has advised law firms around the world on issues of strategy, economics, ownership, and valuation.

He has a particular interest in the reconfiguration of the legal world being driven by competition and the Legal Services Act 2007, while maintaining a firm belief in the need for professional ethics and integrity in business.

Stephen is known for having an independent mind, and now divides his time between non-executive and advisory appointments, and policy work.

Stephen has worked with hundreds of clients around the world (including law firms, barristers’ chambers, corporate and government legal departments, and regulators), helping them to make difficult decisions in times of structural or industry change.
